Trunk or Treat 2017

Trunk or Treat 2017 is in the books! We appreciate everyone who volunteered and all of our special guests who came out to join in the fun!

This is only our second year to host Trunk or Treat, so we're still learning and tweaking things as we go. We have lots of notes to work off of from this year and are looking forward to making things even better next year.

A special thank you goes out to Kilgore Fire Department! The kids loved checking out the fire truck and meeting the crew. Especially when you had to leave for a call with your sirens and lights on!

We hope everyone had a great time and comes back to see us during our annual Christmas Parade Reception!

Heart to Heart Volunteer Card

Don't forget to volunteer to be a Greeter or a Caretaker as part of our Heart to Heart initiative. If you need a volunteer card to fill out, please let us know and we will make sure you get one!

Greeters and Caretaker's have slightly different tasks, but the same goal. We want visitors to know we care and that our kindness and warmth is more than just on the surface. Neither of these roles is something that takes a lot of time, but it can make a world of difference to our guests!

Greeters jobs begin when a guest arrives. Greeters are tasked with being a friendly face. You can invite guests to sit with you and perhaps even to go out for lunch. We don't want our guests to feel smothered, but we do want them to know we truly care and are glad they joined us!
Caretakers follow up later in the week. Whether it be a visit to the person's home, a handwritten note to say we're so glad you came or even a phone call. Staying in touch with our guests lets them know we look forward to seeing them again!

If you are willing to serve as a greeter or caretaker (and we really hope EVERYONE choses a place to serve), please let Pastor Powell know!

You can ask for a volunteer card at church, email him directly, or give him a call.

We're all part of the family of God and we want to ensure others feel the love He has for us all.

Politics in Perspective

10/8/2017

The last several weeks in American politics have been filled with vitriol and divisiveness, that our country is tearing itself apart. We need to pray for our government leaders that they may have the guidance to choose the right course of action. That they will be able to unify us once again as a nation and begin the healing process.

While politics plays an important part in our lives, it is not the end all be all. Recently, Eric Erickson, a writer for  Fox News, recently shared a post on his Facebook page about why, as he lays in a hospital bed, that politics doesn't matter.
"I have to tell you that American politics really does not matter when you have kids and are dying. You begin to seriously ask yourself what you want your kids to know if you’re gone. My kids, were they to learn about me from Google, would really only know what people who hate me think about me.

I was far more worried about my kids’ relationship with God and their mother than about their politics or the political fight of the day. American politics today is such small ball gutter politics. The stakes are so small that the fights are all that matter. And I want my kids to have no part of that. Sure, there are fights that matter. But there are many more fights you think matter than actually do." - Eric Erickson

We need to always keep things in perspective and recognize the important thing. We can't always control the political climate in our country, but we can pray for wisdom for our leaders and healing for our nation,
