Imagine two or three people of the same gender meeting weekly for accountability, growth and development.  It is recommended that a group not grow past three but rather multiply into two groups of two once the fourth participant has proven faithful to the process.  The Strength of Two or Three:  Community, Accountability, Confidentiality, Flexibility and Reproducibility.

1.  Souls are to be prayed for specifically and regularly.  Each person identifies 3 others the Lord lays on their hearts that need Jesus.  Each person in the group prays throughout the week for those on the list.  Those who begin to seek Christ become perfect candidates for the next group and multiplication of the group can occur naturally and spontaneously and in a way that the whole group can rejoice in together.  1 Cor. 9:22-23 “To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might sa ve some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”  1 Cor. 10:33  “…For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.”

2. Serve those you’re praying for.  Christ died for them.  Seek opportunities to minister grace to those you’re praying for.  Do this individually with those on your list. You can also do it as a group – service like projects.  Show up as a group to help someone on a project they’re working on (cleaning a field, building a shed, etc.).   You are the temple of the Holy Spirit.  1 Cor. 10:24 “Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.”

3. Scripture is read repetitively – in context and in community.  Jesus said the word of God is the seed of new life (Luke 8:11,15).  To expect lives to be changed and bear fruit without first planting the seed is foolish and disappointment will result.  Each group decides on a book of the Bible they will read that week.  It is recommended that you read 25-30 chapters each week as a goal.  If someone doesn’t complete the reading that week, then everyone does the reading again the next week.  This is not bad, as reading entire books repetitively will yield rich rewards!  Everyone shares weekly what God is teaching them and how they are obeying His voice.  1 Cor. 3:6  “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.”  1 Cor. 2:16  “…But we have the mind of Christ.”

4.  Sin is confessed in mutual accountability.  Christians need one another (Heb. 10:24-25).  Ask each other accountability questions.  The meetings start here because it is easy to lose time talking abut other things.  The confession of sin prepares the soil of people’s hearts for the word of God being read each week.  1 Cor. 5:6-7  “Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”

5.  Sending others is the key to multiplication and making disciples.  This is the goal, to send others who will do the same.  1 Cor. 4:15-16 “Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me.”
