What does the word routine mean…well according to Webster it is a prescribed, detailed course of action to be followed regularly; a standard procedure. A set of customary and often mechanically performed procedures or activities.
Isn’t it weird how easy it is to fall into a routine.
Think about it. When you get up in the morning you take a shower…or not… you get dressed, brush your teeth deal with contacts or glasses if you’ve got them then you go to school or work.
Now think about how often you do that exact same routine in a week…a month… a year. It starts to add up to one long continuous cycle.
This is also known as a habit. We all know how hard it is to break a habit once you get one started right and it gets harder the longer you have it.
This brings me to my point. As Christians we are told to be in the world and not of the world. This is extremely difficult because we are born in the world and it is routine.
We don’t know any better until were told and as we established earlier its tough to break habits…especially longstanding ones.
When your first saved you feel God so strongly that you feel that you could never leave him…especially at a place like camp. However once you leave that wonderful place and enter the world you begin to fall back in to the routine ever so slowly.
You may not fall to the point you were at before but you fall nonetheless.
Then you might begin the routine of going to church because you feel its your duty and not because you want to be closer to God. As you go you become more and more numb to everything happening around you.
Being a Christian is basically the continual breaking of the routine.
Because its you trying to break a habit you’ve had since the day you were born.
God calls us to be on fire for him not to be lukewarm
.
If you haven’t learned something new about God each day then your beginning to fall back into the routine and its so gradual that you don’t even notice until you don’t even care anymore.
This is one of the greatest challenges I believe face Christians today.
The whole world is stuck in the routine of making money and its our responsibility to break through that barrier and show them that there is sooo much more to life.
